Well, to start, the Saturn Vue wasn't available in 1994, may be your issue......
An automatic transmission might be slow shifting from first to second because of low transmission fluid. You might also have damaged the gears in the transmission at the area between first and second.
my 98 vw jetta atuo shifts hard in first but fine in 2,3
A car with an automatic transmission shifts itself from 1st to 2nd to 3rd when you accelerate. You don't need to shift it...that's why they call it automatic.
First thing to do is have a complete fluid and filter change. If that doesn't fix it, take it to a transmission specialist.
Lack of transmission fluid, most likely. That's the cheapest and easiest variable to eliminate first.
depends is it automatic or manual? if its automatic its more than likely that your transmission isn't shifting into first gear
My 1984 corvette transmission is not shifting into overdrive. It shifts first thru third fine.
the first automatic transmission was invented by Louis-Rene Panhard and Emile Levassor in 1894
Check the shift cableS, and the shift bushings. Broken cables or worn bushings can result in shifting problems.Good luck, and hope that it isn't a transmission problem.

Oldsmobile came out with a fully automatic transmission in the 1940 model year.
The first fully automatic transmission was the Hydro-matic, offered in the 1940 Oldsmobile. There were semi-automatics (GM's Automatic Safety Transmission and Chrysler's Fluid Drive) available in 1937.
