Why does no refraction occurs when the media have the same index of refraction?

Reflection happens only at the interface between two media, and two media with the same index of refraction act as if they were a single medium. Thus, at the interface between media with the same index of refraction, there is no reflection, and the ray keeps going straight. Continuing this line of thought, it is not surprising that we observe very little reflection at an interface between media with similar indices of refraction.

What is the difference from reflection and refraction?

REFLECTION: 1It is the phenomena in which a ray of light after striking a surface retuns back to the same medium. 2.reflection is carried out by the help of mirrors such as concave and convex mirrors. REFRACTION: 1.when a ray of light travels from one medium to another medium its speed changes and this change in speed causes refraction of light. 2.it is caused by lenses such as concace and convex lenses.

What happens to some of the light before entering a glass block?

When light enters a glass block, it undergoes reflection and refraction. However at the glass air interface, refraction occurs to a larger extent than refraction and hence some of the light is reflected while the rest of it enters the glass block.

What might you see if refraction occurred during precipitation?

If refraction occurs during precipitation, it is possible that a rainbow will be visible after the storm. Rainbows are produced when the eye can actually see the bending of light rays that is not normally visible.

What is the difference between waves bending due to refraction and diffraction?

Refraction is the bending of light when it passes from one medium to another medium (like from air to glass). The basis for refraction is the speed of light is slightly different in the two mediums. Diffraction is the bending of light that occurs around a sharp edge (like light passing thru a slit). The basis for diffraction is the spreading out of the wave as it passes by the sharp edge.

What happens if the refraction angle is greater than ninety degrees?

This means no refraction occurs i.e. Total internal reflection (all light reflected) occurs

What is the minimum index of refraction for a glass or plastic prism to be used in binoculars so that total internal reflection occurs at 45 degrees?

The minimum index of refraction for a glass or plastic prism to be used in binoculars so that total internal reflection occurs at 45 degrees is 1.414

What tajes place when the angle of incidence is smaller than the critical angle?

Refraction and partial internal reflection occurs

A beam of light enters a fish tank hits the mirrored surface of the bottom and then comes out at the top what hampens?

reflection, refraction, and reflection occurs because of how the beam of light hits. and where it hits.

Can light be reflected and refrated at the same time?

Reflection happens when light waves bounce on a reflective surface. Refraction occurs when light wave bends through two different mediums. If you can see through a window and see your image at the same time, it due to both refraction and reflection.

What do rainbows get color from?

White light is a mixture of all the colors of the rainbow. When white light passes through raindrops refraction occurs; it changes direction - we see colors because the amount of refraction depends on the frequency (ie the color) of the light passing through the water - this process is called dispersion.

Why does partial reflection and refraction still occur when the light is travelling more slowly in acrylic than in water?

It seems that you have not got a hold on refraction yet. Refraction occurs when a light is moving from one kind of medium to another kind. Now the slower the light moves more is the refraction. In fact refraction occurs due to change in the velocity of light in different mediums. When light moves from a rarer medium to a denser medium like say from air to glass, The speed of light decreases and the light moves towards the normal. A part of the light gets reflected back into the air as it falls on a denser medium. The reflection you see in the mirror is not perfect as due to the thickness of the glass most of the light refracts and some reflects.

What is optical fiber communication?

Communication in which pulses light travels with its original speed i.e. 3*10^8 m/sec from one place to another with the help of optical fiber, and delay in speed occurs due to reflection, refraction, scattering ,dispersion, macrobending, macrobending and intermodal-dispersion.For any queries contact me: Mudassir Azammudassir.azam537@gmail.com
