I'm not sure where you got this idea from. Most Christian denominations practise baptism and of those that do, many baptise infants. Those who do not are baptised as adults. In the Roman Catholic Church. and the Anglican Church, baptism of babies is widely practised, and a further service of 'confirmation' is held once the child is old enough to make a commitment to Christ himself - usually iin his or her teen years, although confirmation of adults is also common. Many Christian denominations bring their infant children to their place of worship for baptism taking upon themselves the responsibility to live a "Christian Life". Others wait until the individual is ready to accept Christ individually and then they are baptized. St. Paul writes "There is one faith, one Lord, one baptism." The Roman Catholic Church recognizes all Trinitarian baptism as valid Baptism.

Put simply, some Christians (primarily evangelicals) believe that since a baby does not yet have a will of it's own, it can neither accept or deny Jesus as savior. Until they are adults (most christians would put the bottom age-cap for this at around 13 yrs) they cannot make this decision for themselves, so an infant baptism would be meaningless. Those who do not believe in infant baptism also refute the sacramental nature of baptism itself - it is not a saving act, rather a public confession of belief (another reason to wait till adulthood), and so it has more in common with a magical pagan rite than Christian practice. Such people cite that we have no record in The Bible for infant baptism, but this is disputed. Either way, scholarship agrees that infant baptism is at least as old as the 3rd cent.

Many baptist churches have a dedication ceremony that is performed but the act of baptism is reserved for believers. Until a child reaches the age of accountability they are "safe." It is difficult to know when the age of accountability is.

How do Asians celebrate baptism?

First, it should be noted that not all Asians are Christian. Most are not. Buddhism, Shinto, and Taoism are more common in Asia, and those religions do not have a baptism ritual. As for Asian Christians, just like American Christians, there are many different denominations. Some baptize children when they are babies, others when they are older. Some baptize by sprinkling holy water on the child and saying prayers, while others require full immersion in water, sometimes in a lake or a river. They baptize people generally the same way as westerners do.

How old do you have to be to be baptised?

That depends on your church's particular beliefs. Some baptize babies after they come home from the hospital. Others wait until teenage years. Among those that baptize later on, the general view is that it is the person's commitment to Christ, not their age, that determines when they should be baptized.

Do church teachers have authority to baptize?

Catholic AnswerNormally, only the ordained clergy: deacons, priests, and bishops have the authority to baptize, however, in an emergency ANYONE can baptize, even a person who has not been baptized. All they need to do is pour plain water (and only water) over the person's head while saying, "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." They must intend to do what the Church does while they do this. Non-Catholic AnswerNon-Catholic Christians believe that the great commission was given by Jesus to all believers/disciples: Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,So any Christian can baptize a new believer. But an unbeliever has no authority to baptize.
