Not really, Christians use a text based on the Torah that was modified to support the teachings of Christianity.
A:Yes. Most Christians believe this, although those who have studied the Bible are less likely to do so.
It wasn't. Back during the early days of Christianity, the Torah & the Writings known as the Tanach were written down for 4 different Jewish sects: The Pharisee Torah; The Essen Torah, the Samaritan Torah, & I believe the Saducees Torah. The Torah & Tanach which the Christians used for the Old Testament came from the Essene Torah & Tanach, whereas, the ones that would ultimately become of use for mainline Judaism, ever after the dawn of Christianity, came from the Pharisaic Torah & Tanach.
The word "Bible" is from the Greek "Biblos", which means "Book" in English. The Latin word for "Book" is "Liber".Incidentally, this is where the word "Library" comes from. When Mohammed received his revelation, he referred to "The people of the Book", meaning Jews, Christians, and Muslims, because all three religions use and believe in the Bible. Jews use the Torah, or Old Testament; Christians use the Torah and New Testament, and Muslims use the Torah, New Testament, and Koran.
The Torah is basically the first five books of the Bible, so Jesus hadn't shown up yet. The Torah contains many refernces to a Messiah, which Christians believe was Jesus, but Jews don't believe this.
Its like saying how do christians believe the bible, how Muslims believe the koran, how the Jews believe in the Torah, so for Sikhs it is the guru granth sahib.
True Christians believe what the scriptures teach about death and what happens afterward. The scriptures point out that when (the large majority of) people die, they simply return "to dust" a.k.a. breakdown to the bare elements they were created from and cease to exist. The same thing happens with animals. (Ecclesiastes 3:19-20) This has been happening since Adam sinned in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 3:19) During this breakdown process, the person knows/feels nothing; completely unconscious. (Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 & 10) Only a small group of people are chosen by Jehovah God and Jesus to go to Heaven: 144,000. (Revelation 14:1-4) So what about the other righteous people that have died through the centuries? Or those that died before gaining any knowledge of Jehovah? There will be a resurrection of both righteous and 'unrighteous' (a.k.a. those that died before knowing who Jehovah was or His principles) people (John 5:28-29; Acts 24:15), who will then be able to live forever on Earth, one devoid of evil people. (Psalms 37:10, 11, 28 & 29) Those that died with no knowledge of Jehovah will be given a chance to prove themselves faithful, and if they do so they'll be able to live eternally alongside the rest of the righteous. (New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures)
We believe that Moses received the Torah from the top of Mt. Sinai.
All the people who don't believe what you do are infidels (unbelievers) from your perspective. To Christians, Muslims are the infidels. ________________________________________________________ Christians and Jews call Muslims infidels. However, Muslims call Christians and Jews as "people of the book" as they are holders of the holy books Torah and the Bible that Muslims believe that these holy books are revelations of God.
The Jewish version of their teachings.
Yes, a Humanistic Jew believes in the Torah.
The old testament to the Jewish people is called the Torah , the New Testament is the one that Christians believe in. To extend what Thomas is saying, Christians believe and study the Old Testament as it has history which ties it to their "New Testament", and also because they believe prophesies of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Ezekiel, and others that forordained the arrival of Jesus of Nazareth as their Messiah.
