Igloos are built from large bricks cut from compacted snow, snow is easy to cut, and light-weight, it is easy to trim and form into the Igloo shape. Ice is very hard, very heavy and not easy to build with.

An igloo is a house made of ice and eskimos are the native people of Alaska (who were known to live in igloos)
For igloos, they used snow and ice. For tents, they used animal skin.
The Inuit Tribes lived in IGLOOS.
They used ice and snow! Hope you liked it!

Out on the tundra, during the winter season (most of the year) there's pretty much just snow, snow, and more snow. There are no trees, bushes or other materials to build a house from, so the Inuit invented igloos. They invented them because they were resourceful (not so much that they had a choice).
Hardly any Alaskan natives live in igloos. Most have regular houses. Igloos were useful because they could be readily made from items at hand (ice and snow) and lasted one or several seasons. Native Eskimos using ice and snow for housing is no more remarkable than the southwest Indians using clay or the northwest Indians using wood.
Eskimos stay in there igloos, their body heat warms u the air inside the igloos and the air inside becomes warmer than the air outside. Both air and ice are insulators and they reduce heat loss from inside the igloos to surrounding by conduction..
ice and snow
Eskimos used the seal and caribou hides that were left over to make some clothes and make skin tents for the summer. They also used the snow and ice around them to make igloos. Eskimos used the wood around to start a fire??? I am not so sure about that.....
Even though igloos are made up of ice, Eskimos stay warm because their body heat warms the air inside the igloos and the air inside becomes warmer than the air outside. Both air and ice are good insulators and they reduce heat loss from inside the igloos to the surroundings by conduction.
