The traditional French breakfast used to be bread and butter or jam, with a beverage: mainly milk in the old times, coffee more recently. Using powder chocolate to put in the milk was very popular for children, who usually were not given coffee until they were teens. Now not everybody likes Hot Chocolate (or milk or coffee), but there are many who kept it as their morning start.
