A German shephards is just alot of different kinds of wolf mixed with a shephard dog because they needed a dog that was still able to herd but would have the size the power and the courage of the wolf , so they just bread, bread and breed until they were just like a wolf in looks strength and courage ,but still had that herding instinct so there job would basicly be to herd, track also to protect sheep with the courage to go up againstwolfs, bears ,cayotes and men and most importantly they would protect there sheep herder, now answering your qwestion about why there only loyal to the one man, there not just loyal to the one man there loyal to the whole family but the have one leader and one person they listen two but they will still protect a family and in my opinion are one of the best guard dogs you can get and are great for personal protection
