Diwali or deevali comes from the word Deepavali which means 'Row of lights' There are many legends: It is celebrated in remembrance of Sri Rama's homecoming from 14 years of exile after killing the demon Ravana. Another legend states that it marks the killing of Narakasura in the hands of his mother Satyabhama. It is also considered by some as a harvest festival and hence Goddess Lakshmi (the Goddess of wealth) is worshipped.
