Like most snakes, king snakes' mouths unhinge very wide. They can open their mouth comparitively as far as you can move your thumb away from your pointer finger. Then, the snake can eat anything that can fit in it's mouth.

Rattlesnakes are eaten by kingsnakes. Not all rattlers are too large, after all, they start life small, and some adult species are not too large for a kingsnake. The kingsnake is a constrictor, and pins the rattler to the ground where it is constricted and swallowed.
