It is not that they do not like coffee. The Word of Wisdom instructs them not to drink coffee, tea -- anything with caffeine in it, alcohol, or use tobacco.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called "Mormons") obey a health code called the "Word of Wisdom". They believe that this health code was given to Joseph Smith by revelation from God. The Word of Wisdom prohibits "strong" drink and "hot" drinks. You might be surprised to hear that the Mormon Pioneers drank coffee regularly. Later Church leaders defined "hot" drinks as coffee and tea. Recently, energy drinks have been added to the list of "strong" drinks.

This actually is very ambiguous and is really up to each member's own interpretation. However, coffee and tea were the most common drinks referred to as "hot drinks" when the rule was written (refer to the Words of Wisdom). Nothing says you aren't supposed to eat chocolate. Many also ask why are Mormons allowed to drink soda, but not coffee and tea. That is also up to each member's interpretation....but it really comes down to the way that the caffeine in coffee and tea is processed and how incredibly unhealthy they both are for you.
