The origin of thanks giving is probably a harvest festival, traditional in many parts of the world, particularly Europe, which celebrated the end of a successful harvest with festivals of thanksgiving to God.

The origin of Thanksgiving has traditionally been associated with the Pilgrims. Upon the completion of the first harvest by the Plymouth colonists in 1621, Governor William Bradford proclaimed a day of thanksgiving and prayer. The colonists as well as local Indians took part in the celebrations. The Pilgrims of Plymouth Rock held their Thanksgiving in 1621 as a three day "thank you" celebration to the leaders of the Wampanoag Indian tribe and their families for teaching them the survival skills they needed to make it in the New World. It was the nature of the Wampanoag people to treat any visitor to their homes like family and share whatever provisions they had regardless of how little they had.

Dallas, at least pro football fans and the Dallas Cowboys, celebrate Thanksgiving with football. The Cowboys host a home game every Thanksgiving. And those who are not Dallas Cowboys fans, if there are any in Dallas, celebrate Thanksgiving the same as the rest of the country, by getting together with family for a big turkey dinner.
