We lose teeth because our permanent teeth push against the old teeths roots. This destroys the old teeths roots but its good because it leaves a spot to grow. Then gradually the old tooth begins to loosen and come out. It may take a while for the permanent tooth to grow. (I dont know how long the permanent tooth takes to grow but anyway)
Cats, just like people, can lose their adult teeth at any age if they are not kept clean, or has sustained some sort of mouth injury. If the cat has no injuries, tooth loss usually means that the cat has something wrong with its mouth or gums, such as gingivitis or some other gum disease. Periodontal disease and other dental problems are one of the most common disorders in cats. Studies estimate that around 70% of cats exhibit signs of gum disease by the time they are 3 years old. If left unchecked, can lead to loss of teeth, or even heart, liver and kidney damage due to bacteria being carried in the blood from infected gums.
If your cat is losing teeth or its gums look sore or inflamed, take it to the vet immediately.
It is thought that a cat's genes partly determine a cat's dental health; some cats will have perfect teeth while the dental health in others will deteriorate, no matter what food they eat. Just like a human's mouth, bacteria from saliva and food particles stick on or between the teeth, which causes bacteria to flourish. It is this build up of bacteria that causes plaque. Plaque can harden over a few days to form tartar, or calculus. If left, this can cause gingitivtis and other dental problems.
