It is doing a guage check. Most big trucks and diesels do it. Not seen it in a gasoline engine though.
This often refers to a dashboard instrument panel that houses 4 large gauges. Usually two of the gauges will be Speedometer and Tachometer. The other two may some combination of Engine oil pressure, Engine Temperature, Intake vacuum, Alternator/Battery voltage, Fuel pressure, Clock, etc.
On a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria : The H / L ( High / Low ) gauge : On the drivers side of the speedometer is the battery voltage gauge On the passenger side of the speedometer is the engine oil pressure gauge

I have what looks like a battery light on my dashboard. What does this mean?
Is it like this:(!)If so, that is the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) light. When lit, it is indicating that one or more of your tires are low.
Refers to the battery in the car key! So it means you will need a new battery in the electronic key.
loose battery connection, or dead battery.
A bad battery or faulty battery connection.

The battery in the key holder is getting weak.
Remove dashboard. Then locate the only arm to battery connection. After finding the connection disconnect Judas cable and return the dashboard.
