When our Solar System was still young the 8 planets were still being formed, Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are rocky because they are closer to the sun so most of the gas surrounding the planets faded away, Since the gas planets are farther away from the Sun (Cooler) the planet's gasses didn't fade out.

They are called "gas giants" because they have so much gas. That's good for

making big atmospheres. Scientists think that being more distant from the Sun

helps them to keep their gases.

They have gas there because when a new planets form all the gas mix up with each other and explode, but there is no fire. You can only have a fire with oxygen in space, so therefore it has a big atmosphere because it expanded when it exploded.

Gas Giants have large atmosphere's because the strong gravity keeps the gases from escaping.

More Mass = Stronger Gravity

Which planet is surrouned by thick atmosphere of deadly gasses?

All of these planets are surrounded by a atmosphere of deadly gas : Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. The planet with the thickest deadly atmosphere of gas is Jupiter.

Why do outer planets have a thicker atmospheres than the inner planets?

Gravity is the force that keeps an atmosphere in place, surrounding a planet. Since there is no actual roof or container holding in the atmosphere, gas can always leak away into outer space, if it is not held in place by gravity. So the stronger the gravitational force, the more atmosphere can be retained. Large planets have a lot of hydrogen in their atmosphere, but hydrogen leaks away from smaller planets. Large planets attracted more gas when they were originally formed, as well. Remember that the solar system itself, and everything in it, originally condensed out of an interstellar cloud of gas and dust.

What is the Name for planets whose atmosphere is made up of mostly gases?

atmosphere is made up of gases in all planets. But if you mean planets that are mostly atmosphere, then those are gas giants (Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus)

If each planet has a thick atmosphere why can't anyone breath?

They don't all have thick atmospheres. Mars has a thin atmosphere and Mercury barely has an atmosphere at all. No planet in the solar system other than Earth has significant amounts of elemental oxygen in the atmosphere. This is the gas we get from breathing. Additionally, the other planets are too hot, too cold, or have pressure that is too high or too low for us to breathe.

What is the difference between terrestial planets and gas planets?

The terrestrial planets are small in size and mass, they are rocky, solid and dense, all four terrestrial planets have 3 moons between them. They are warm and close to the sun. Terrestrial planets USUALLY have thin atmosphere. The Gas Giants are huge in size, have rings made from dust, debris, ice, rock. They very cold (not close to the sun at all) and light (made from gas.) They have several moons between them (167, I think) and lastly Gas Giants usually have thick and deep atmosphere.

Do the gas giants have thinner atmosphere than the terrestrial planets?

No. As the name gas giant implies, these planets are made largely of gas. They have extremely thick atmospheres.

What is the difernce between earths atoespher and all of the other planets?

first it is atmosphere it is earth has enough oxygen for us to live on it is not a thick as gas planets cuz its not a gas planet its a rocky 1

What is that planet that has a super thick atmosphere?

All the outer planets, Jupiter being the thickest.

Why are they given the name gas planets?

They are called gas giants, actually. They are called that, because they have a very thick atmosphere and the core is so deep below the 'surface' of the atmosphere that we cannot see the core.

What planets atmosphere have strong winds?

Jupiter and all the gas giants.

Which planets gas might be close to the amount on earth?

If by gas you mean an atmosphere, there are no planets with an atmosphere anywhere similar to Earth.
