Why is there usually no more than four or five stages in a food chain?
There cannot be too many links in a food chain. Food chains always begin with a plant and end with an animal. If there are more than 4 or 5 links in the chain , there will not be enough food for the animals at the end of the chain.

Yes pesticides are some what bad because of what they do, they kill insects. They also go threw the ground and eventually end in water making pollution... Some of the insects that the pesticides kill are actually not going to hurt the plants that the pesticides are on in the first place. that means pesticides kill and pollute, does that sound very good. Pesticides are made from chemicals, bad ones at that and poison's in poison's out.
How are animals are completely dependent upon plants as food?
Animals that eat other animals (carnivores) often eat plant eating animals (herbivores) or animals that eat both (omnivores). Even if they don't, at some point in the food chain, animals will be dependant on plants to live. If the herbivores die out because of lack of food, then the animals that eat them will also die, and so on. In the end, the carnivores food will not be around any more, so they will also die. It is all very complicated, take an example. A lion will eat a gazelle that will eat grass. If the grass dies, so will the gazelle. The lion will then die because it will not have any more gazelles to eat! So that is how meat eating animals depend on plants, even though they don't eat them themselves.

Unfortunately, no. As along as there are cruel people in the world. There will be abuse of animals. With the more regulations protecting animals, it is getting better.
