i have been led to believe that most herbivores generally have their eyes on the side of their head as herbivores are typically prey animals and need the watch their surrounding whilst grazing, take a gazelle as an example, they are always watching whilst grazing for predators such as lions, they can get around 270 degree vision this way.

Now carnivores generally have eyes on the front of their face as they are predatory animals and only keep their eyes on their prey, such as a lion watching that stragling gazelle, i did a whole gcse on the Biology B3 topic and this is what i had to learn.

hope this helps!

What are the advantages of a animal having eyes on the front instead of on the sides?

Animals with eyes on the front of their head (binocular vision) allows them to see in three-dimensions, this allows them to see in depth as well. This means they can determine the distance between objects unlike animals with eyes on the side of their head (monocular vision)

What is the Difference between carnivore and herbivore?

Carnivores tend to eat meat, so animals that hunt other animals would be carnivores, as well as scavengers. They sometimes eat small amounts of plants, for their nutrition. Herbivores on the other hand, eat plants. They are usually the ones getting hunted. If the animal likes to eat both (in generally equal moderation) like humans, they are called "omnivores". One way to be able to tell the difference at a glance is this rhyme: Eyes in front, likes to hunt. Eyes on the side, likes to hide. This is generally true for all animals, If they have eyes on the front of their heads, they eat meat (lions, wolves, etc.). But if their eyes are on the side of their heads, they use them to watch for predators (sheep, squirrels, etc.).The difference of Carnivore and Herbivore are that Herbivores are animals that only eat plants (leaves, grass, etc) and Carnivores are animals that refer to meat (cows, rabbits, etc) and you might come across one as "Omnivore", these are animals that refer to both meat AND plants.
