The anime series was never canceled, instead they had to cut it short and postpone further episodes so that the manga could continue and create more of a storyline. The anime also had to create an ending for the series which doesnt appear in the manga, however there has been talk of a second season being produced. I guess that's what happens when an anime overides it's manga.

The anime wasn't canceled, they just don't continue the anime as long as the manga. Most of the times in ends differently and the storyline is quite different. So, it wasn't canceled, it ended.
