They still choose to wear their spike shoes do to the lightweight nature of the shoe and the fact that they are accustomed to running in them. However, it is not recommended to wear stud/blanks on outdoor tracks.

If you are running on a track, you can wear spikes, just make sure there is a cushion in the heel. Sprinter spikes have very little heel cushion.

Spikes should be removeable because they wear out pretty easily. If your spikes don't come out there is something wrong with your shoe. It is only bad to run with your spikes still on when you're not running on track or grass. NEVER run with spikes on concrete or anything else!!! It is not bad to run around with no spikes on your shoes, I do it all the time :)
Can you use regular track shoes with javelin spikes?
No, I do not recommend using regular track shoes to throw the javelin. Javelin spikes have spikes in the heel as well as the front, so you can plant your block leg without slipping. Generally speaking javelin spike shoes are a heavier shoe. This allows for the much longer spikes. However, some athletes do wear there "regular" spike shoes and purchase a "jav heel" to add the extra much needed spikes in the heels.
Why spikes are provided on the soles of the shoes of athletes?
Sports shoes have different treads to provide grip depending on what terrian they are being used on. For example: Soccer shoes have studs in the bottom to provide grip in the slippery mud etc.

These are not called needles but spikes the spikes get put into the shoe. It's to stop you falling in crosscountry races and slipping on the track.It is actually quite confusing because as well as the shoe being called spikes the jaggy things are called spikes too.
