Some of the bones in adults were more than one bone when they were babies, and fused as the person grew. The place where this phenomenon is most familiar is in the skull. Also one the topic of extra bones males have 1 less rib then females. Isn't the story of creation more likely now.

They don't, they actually are born with less. For example, babies aren't born with knee caps, its not until later that they develop.
