Why does a balloon go down after a few days?A balloon goes down after a few days because the helium can pass through the skin of a balloon which then reduces the size of the balloon and the balloon then slowly reaches the floor after loosing all its helium. If you need any more help visit www.wikipidia.com

Helium balloons, after a while, start to lose their buoyancy and give the impression of deflating. This phenomena is due to effusion of the helium molecules from the inside of the balloon to the atmosphere. Effusion is the escape of gas molecules through small pores of a medium, and the rubber making up the balloons contain numerous holes along its surface. The gas escapes when the molecules randomly collide with these holes. There are two primary reason that the helium effuses: the pressure difference and the concentration of helium. The high pressure of the gas within the balloon, which generates an often surprising "pop" when something break the balloon, forces the gas inside the balloon out to equal the pressure of the atmosphere, which also drives out the helium. The first reason explains why the balloon deflates but why does it eventually just sink? The reason is concentration, the "helium" that is used to fill the balloons are usually of high concentration of pure helium mixed with nitrogen while the concentration of helium in air is a measly 1.84% of the atmosphere; this difference drives the effusion of the helium even more until the concentration of the helium is equal to that of air, which basically makes the gas within the balloon identical to air, which does not float very well in air.

Because the helium that is lighter than air that makes them float slowly leaks out through tiny holes in the balloon.

The helium diffuses through the balloon skin. The helium atoms are very small and fingd their way through the balloon material.
