Well, the queen is the ruler and the bees need to have someone to rule. Just like we have the president. Hope this helps! :)
There is only 1 queen bee in th hive.

All bees in a hive are female. The workers are sterile females. The only time there are males is in the spring when there is a new queen to be serviced. There are usually more than 1 million bees in a hive.

Forager bees will return to where the hive was. When they can't find it they will look for a hive nearby (within a matter of a few metres). If they find one they will enter that hive and become one of that colony. If there is no hive nearby, they will eventually die: how quickly will depend on weather conditions and overnight temperature. A beekeeper will try to avoid this situation happening by moving hives in the evening after all foragers have returned to the hive.
A queen honeybee lives a protected and 'easy' life. She can live three to four years! But drones or worker bees have an average lifespan of a few weeks (1 month) to months (about 6 months). Worker bees can get evicted from the hive! Without the hive and its protection, the evicted bees will die.
It varies throughout the year and also depends on the size of the hive, but with the average hive in late winter there will probably be between 10,000 and 20,000, and it summer there will be up to around 60,000 bees.

3 different honey bees. 1) Queen bee ( lays eggs) 2)Drones ( they do not work just help in reproduction) 3)Workers(work al the time)
There are different sized hives, and the size of a colony varies throughout the year with the lowest population in late winter, and the highest in early summer, but average values are:Summer: 1 queen, around 60,000 workers and 300 drones.Winter: 1 queen, around 10,000 workers and no drones.

When swarming, bee scouts look for a cavity of around 40-50 litres. Most beehives tend to be about twice this size, although it's impossible to be precise, because they are usually modular, and thus expandable.
