To begin the boat has a surface area factor and water has a surface tension and the way the boat is crafted causes it to sit on this tension because the hull of the boat is filled with air which is less dense than water. So the combination of the fact that air is less dense than water and the surface tension of water causes the boat to float
objects float because they displace more water than they weigh.

An object in a fluid experiences an upward force equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. So if a boat weighs 1,000 pounds (or kilograms), it will sink into the water until it has displaced 1,000 pounds (or kilograms) of water. Provided that the boat displaces 1,000 pounds of water before the whole thing is submerged, the boat floats.
An object will float in a fluid if it can displace a greater weight in fluid than the object itself weighs
more than 0.1density of water will sink on water

n less than 0.1 will floats

Yes, salt water is denser than fresh water so boats float higher in salt water.

What do you use canal boats for?

Why do boats float and ships sink?

Provided the boats and the ships displace their weight in water without the water coming inboard, they will float and not sink. A boat made of wood is likely to float even when full of water because wood tends to float. It is all to do with displacement and freeboard.

What things carry us that float on water?

Why do boats float but humans don't?

Why are boats shaped the way the are?

so that they will be able to float and drive on water. :)

How can you do an experiment on what makes boats float?

Boats float because the mass of the water they displace is greater than the mass of the boat. This difference in density creates bouyancy.Read more: What_makes_a_good_boat_float
