Most people try to listen in to the conversations of others, whether it be a boy/man or a girl/woman.
But as you have queried for why boys listen in, it may be because:
A person likes to be 'in sync' with the ones they like, and to know if they like them back. The boys who listen to your conversations might be curious what you're talking about, maybe you would be talking about them. Its a natural tendency of people to expect somebody they like, to mention something about them at some time. And so they try to listen in.
On the other hand, it might be pure nosey business, the boys want to know about you and your activities. Which is breach of privacy.

Principals should not listen to teachers' conversations without the teachers' knowledge. Likewise, teachers should not have conversations in school that they would not want other school employees, including the principal, to hear.
