Americans do, in fact, have accents; just not to other Americans from the same area. If you sound different in dialect to someone else, and pronounce words differently than others, then it's likely you have an accent; in this case, everyone in the world has an accent.
Both British and American people have accents; the difference lies in the type of accent. The accents in British English are different from those in American English due to historical settlement patterns and linguistic evolution over time. Accents develop as a result of isolation and cultural influences.
Everyone has an accent, including Americans. The perception that Americans do not have an accent is because American English is often considered the standard or "neutral" accent in certain contexts. Different regions within the United States, however, have various accents and dialects.
People speak British English primarily in the United Kingdom, which includes England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Additionally, British English is also spoken in many other countries that were once part of the British Empire, such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
