A breed that will lay a brown egg, will not lay a white or tinted egg.

However, the eggs will be darker at the begging of hens laying cycle, and can fade to an extremely pale shade by the end of her laying cycle.

The only other reason why a hen might lay an unexpected egg color, would be if she was a mix.

Why do some chickens lay brown or white eggs?

a regular chicken- all chickens lay brown egges! No, not all chickens lay brown eggs. There are lots of breeds which lay white or creamy-white shelled eggs, and a few which lay blue or olive-green shelled eggs (Araucanas, Ameraucanas & Crested Legbars). Among those which do lay brown eggs, there are variations from breeds which lay light brown eggs (sometimes called 'tinted'), through various shades of mid-brown, to a few breeds which lay very dark brown eggs: Marans, Welsummers & Penedesencas.

Do white chickens lay a brown egg periodacally?

The feather color of a chicken does not affect the color of the eggs she lays. It is the breed of the hen that determines the egg color. A chicken that lays white eggs does not drop a brown egg every now and then either, a white egg layer will always lay white eggs. I have several white Araucana hens who lay Lavender colored eggs and a Black Cochin hen who lays light brown eggs (not black eggs)

What red chicken does brown eggs come from?

No. You cannot tell the color of eggs the chicken will lay by the color of their feathers. I have green egg laying chickens called Araucana's and they are not green chickens. Brown feathered hens lay both white and brown eggs as do white hens. Feather color is not an indicator of egg color, breed determines the color of the egg.

Why would an egg white be brown?

There shouldn't be white IN the yolk of an egg. The white should surround the yolk within the egg shell. The yolk (yellow bit) is what transforms to become a chick in a fertile egg. The white (albumen) is what the developing embryo feeds on.

Do big chickens lay brown eggs.?

Some do,of course, but it's nothing to do with the size of the bird it's to do with the breed. An indication is to look at the colour of the chicken's ears! If they're brown/red its brown eggs, white then it's white eggs. One of my hens lays bluey green eggs but her ears are unfortunately covered by bushy whiskers!

Why do white hens lay white eggs and brown hens lay brown eggs and black hens don't lay black eggs?

Feather coloring does not influence the color of the egg laid. The breed of the hen dictates what color her eggs will be.

Do white eggs dissolve faster in vinegar than brown eggs?

Mostly likely not. The only difference between white eggs and brown eggs is that the whites are laid by white hens, and the browns are laid by brown hens. Most "cage-free" eggs, however, are brown. The hens that laid them were housed in human conditions, so the eggs will not only taste better, they may react differently with vinegar than the cheaper eggs laid by the hens kept in the tiny cages. The results will not have anything to do with the color.

Why are three brown eggs?

Brown eggs come from hens that are mostly brown such as Plymouth Rock and Rhode Island. White eggs come from white hens such as the white Leghorn.Another viewFeather colour is not actually a good indicator of the colour egg the hen will lay. Breed of hen will determine the colour of the egg shell. Black Cochin hens lay brown eggs, white Ameraucana hens will lay green shelled eggs. It is believed the colour of the feathers near the ears of a hen is an indicator but that too is not always reliable.

What type of chicken lay brown eggs?

Go to and hatchery website and select brown egg layers. You can tell from cross bred chickens by the color of the feathers around there ear canal. White=white egg, brown=brown egg. What color eggs do australorpe hens lay?

Brown.

Is there such a thing as green eggs?

The actual contents of the eggs are not green; the green eggs are produced by Araucana hens and Ameraucana hens. Unlike white and brown eggs, the green pigment (color) goes all the way through to the inside of the shell. With brown eggs, when you crack them open, the brown color is only on the outside of the shell. With Araucana eggs, when you crack them open, the green is on the inside of the shell also. You can view green and blue eggs on my bio page.

How many eggs do warren hens lay?

Warren hens are known for laying large brown eggs. These hens lay an average of 4 eggs each week. After a full two years of laying the amount of eggs that the hen produces will be reduced.

Why eggs are brown?

It depends on the breed of the chicken. It is a genetic trait. A rule of thumb is to look at the earlobe of the chicken, and that is roughly what the eggs will look like. The White Leghorn breed lays most of the white eggs. The brown eggs come from the Rhode Island Red, the New Hampshire and the Plymouth Rock. The reason brown eggs cost more is because the hens are a little bigger and tend to need more care. Plus there is the urban legend saying they are healthier, so naturally, stores will charge more since more people want them. Brown eggs are not any healthier than white eggs. Egg colors are not limited to white and brown. There are also blue and speckled eggs, though they are hard to find in stores. Those come from the Aracuna breed.
