oneWell there is only one barrel on the gun, but it can hold 6 bullets in the standard revolver. There are variations of the gun that hold 5, 7 and 8 bullets, but those are very rare, particularly for the 7
There is no need to start a double barrel. A double barrel shotgun needs to be loaded like you would a single barrel shotgun only using two bullets. You then cock the gun, aim, and fire.

Each gun barrel has a unique spiral pattern which leaves an imprint on any bullets that are fired. It's my understanding that they can match up the grooves on the bullet with the grooves on the barrel of a gun fairly easily, even if the bullet is all mashed up and deformed from impact. The bullet will follow a curved path toward its target.
