the pan was not properly greased. The best way is to grease with shortening and the lightly coat with flour. Using a grease product is important in making cakes and keeping clean-up and pan sanitation in good shape!
Pan not greased well enough or the cake is not baked well enough. Always dab a skewer in the middle of the cake to make sure it's baked enough. If it comes out clean it is.
