Cars have a differentials in order to allow the wheels to turn at different speeds when you turn. A differential is basically a set of gears which delivers power from the transmission to the axle(s), and thus spins the wheels.
yes.................
The front and rear axles are differentials.
The drive shafts connect the transfer case and differentials.
The differentials are the gears in the back of the rear end that are connected to the axels. They are able to be changed out with different ratio's for different tasks. You would want a taller (larger) gear for drag racing or rock climbing. You would want a smaller ratio gear for slower acceleration but better fuel economy. Cars usually come from the factory with between a 3.23- a 3.73 ratio. Some newer performance cars have a 4.11 for increased acceleration but with a lower mpg(miles per gallon).

Shift differentials are incentives added to hourly pay for working second and third shifts. This is a good way to make some extra money.
no diffenrent.
