because they are bored sometimes The condition is called PICA

Many young children put nonfood items in their mouths at one time or another. They're naturally curious about their environment and might, for instance, eat some dirt out of the sandbox. Kids with pica, however, go beyond this innocent exploration of their surroundings. As many as 25% to 30% of kids have the eating disorder pica, which is characterized by persistent and compulsive cravings (lasting 1 month or longer) to eat nonfood items. The word pica comes from the Latin word for magpie, a bird known for its large and indiscriminate appetite. Pica is most common in people with developmental disabilities. Pica is also a behavior that may surface in children who've had a brain injury affecting their development. It can also be a problem for some pregnant women, as well as people with epilepsy. Although consumption of some items may be harmless, pica is considered to be a serious eating disorder that can sometimes result in serious health problems.

Dogs do not normally eat their own poo.

Sometimes they will eat the poo of other animals, particularly that of herbivores like cows, horses and rabbits, because this poo contains the remains of vegetable matter, such as grass.

Although we tend to think of dogs as being meat eaters, they are actually omnivores and, to a degree, scavengers, so they need a wide variety of different types of food in their diet to cover their complete needs.

They do have a hard time digesting vegetable matter for themselves so the partly-digested vegetable remains in horse poo, for example, can help to supplement the diet you feed your dog and can keep him healthy., however disgusting this sounds to us

If your dog does eat continue to eat his own poo there are three most likely answers.

Firstly, you are not feeding him enough and so he has to eat the poo to stop himself feeling hungry. This is obviously not good and you need to give your dog more food so that he is satisfied - try reading the feeding guide on the can or packet.

Secondly, it might be that you have scolded your dog for fouling in the wrong place. If so, dogs are very practical animals and if they've been told off for making a mess in the house, they will often eat the evidence so that they don't get scolded again. It is up to you to train your dog to poo in the right place (and praise him for doing so), not just to scold him for pooing in the wrong place (which he most likely does not understand but tries to please you by keeping the place clean in his own way).

If neither of the above apply, the third reason could be that you dog may be deficient in a particular vitamin or mineral and that they are trying to boost their intake by eating the poo.

As always with the health of your pet, if you are concerned in any way whatsoever, you should consult your own veterinarian for advice.
