It's a sign of comfort. They did this a babies to get milk from their mother.
They are marking their territory before they lay down.
Cats may lay down while playing because they feel relaxed and comfortable, or they may be trying to conserve energy while still engaging in play. It is a natural behavior for some cats and is not necessarily a cause for concern.
Sounds like she does not like you but is trying to be polite.

Most cats don't like taking tablets, so this is a way around that. So, by placing the tablet in the cats food the cat will probably not notice that there is a tablet and eat it which out any problem. It is also easier than trying to force it down their throat which is what must be done in certain circumstances.
Cats scratch before they lay down to mark their territory, stretch their muscles, and sharpen their claws.
This is a very hard question to answer for sure, but in my opinion YES they really can tell. I have had many "down times" and when I am sad my cat sits on my lap and constantly follows me. I have seen this in many cats and with many different owners so as far as I'm concerned yes they can tell, how they do it exactly I'm not sure. Dogs do the same thing.
We should be trying to cut down on our "Saturated Fat".(:
The old saying is that cats sleep with their heads upside down the day before a rain. It is not always true, cats just sleep funny sometimes.
