Speleologist and cavers often enter a cave with the intention of staying 24 hours, or even 2 or 3 days. In order to have sufficient light while they are in the cave, they will look for ways to save battery power. They also want to reduce the number batteries they have to carry in their packs. One way to do that is with LED headlamps. The best LED headlamps feature switches to control the amount of battery power that the lamp is consuming. Many cavers will mount on the side of their helmet an LED flashlight, or mount one on each side of the helmet. Some cavers may have 4 LED light sources on their helmet, but 3 is more common.
