Christians believe that when Jesus died he freed them from sin.
They are not celebrating the fact that jesus died, they are celebrating the fact that Jesus made it possible for them to live forever in heaven.

∙ 14y agoFirst and foremost, Christians believe that Jesus not only died but also rose again, so it is hard to discuss his death without including his resurrection, as that is a very central belief in Christianity. That said....
Jesus death was on our behalf, that is, he died for our sins, He was sinless but voluntarily took upon himself the sins of the world and suffered and died for them, experiencing not only the physical pain but also the total separation from God that is our just reward for sin.
