There is a certain point in the semester where up to that point if you withdraw from the class, it counts as a W instead a grade. People do this if they already can tell they are not going to be able to pass the class so they can avoid getting and F on their transcript.

Approximately 14-23% of college students drop out after the first year due to alcohol-related issues. This can include academic difficulties, health problems, or behavioral issues stemming from excessive drinking. It's important for universities to provide education and support services to help prevent this.

The drop date at a university or college refers to the last date you can get out of the class without getting a failing grade and often receive a portion of the tuition back.
Reading some of these questions makes me wonder if some of them ever went. I think students should be able to drop out of school because they need to make their own decisons. I think that dropping out is not right but if there was a law that forbidded that then the students that wanted to drop out will probally just end up failing classes and getting into trouble.

Assuming you are a registered student, Fall classes can be registered for online at any time prior to the start of the Fall semester. Classes can further be changed with professors' permission any time before the add/drop deadline, about two weeks into the semester. Registering earlier means more classes are available, and admitted students can check their priority registration date to find out when they may start registering.
Most students begin college with every intention of graduating, but the percent of first year college dropouts is alarmingly high. In fact, approximately 75 percent of students who enter college will drop out during the first year. Few students who drop out eventually finish their education. Those that do return to college usually don't do it immediately. About 12% of the undergraduate population consists of re-entry students. These students are defined as those over the age of 25.
