Could be several things, if it is a desktop be sure that it has enough space around the case to provide for good airflow, a couple of inches on the back and one side is usually enough. Check your vents for dust, if you see dust and other gunk get some compressed air in a can and blow it out. Open up your case and check for dust built up around the fan and heat sink (this looks like a series of metal fins) blow out with compressed air. Listen to your computer and see if the exhaust fans are kicking on. You normally have to wait a little while for them to start running, if they dont kick on replace them!

If you are using a laptop be sure it is sitting on a hard surface if you leave resting on your bed or couch it will resrict airflow to the fans, casuing it to overheat, also blow out vents with compressed air. Dont try and take it apart unless you know what you doing though!

If your computer has been overheating often your processor could have sustained damage. If you fix the overheating issue you may find that your p.c. still acts wacky. You might have to replace your processor, or even other componets depending on how hot it actually got!!

Something with energy consumption. For laptops its even hotter since its a more rechagable battery and something that has to with a laptop needing to be more portable. Yeah my laptop gets REALLY HOT so i use a fan i got from staples for $15 it works. I also have a Super Computer with a 8600GT card that i have three fans inside the computer so its pretty cool. I know someone is going to say this is way to confusing!

It in short terms if your copmuter gets to hot use a fan you can get them at Staples or at Best Buy. Some where in you computers batter setting there may be something called Power Saver Mode try using that it lowers the temp by a little. Theres probably a Advanced setting where you can contol the temp of your laptop/computer since all computers have a built-in fan. Unless you had a severe problem like my Gateway from 2002 its fan and hard drive disk blew off and and hit each other causing a little fire. THAT's WHY FANS ARE SO IMPORTANT! They keep things from braking/melting :)

Actually computers do not use heat, it is very harmful to a computer if there is heat in the computer case. This is the main reason there are so many fans in the case and why they blow air out not suck air in.

Computers are basically built up on circuits, and circuits are basically elaborate versions of a piece of wire. If you run electricity through a wire (like you do with a incandescent light bulb), it will tend to heat up. This is because of a property called electrical resistance (equivalent to "friction" in electricity). The more resistance a piece of conductor (say, a metal wire or a computer chip), the more work the electricity has to work through through it and thus it heats up.

In the CPU alone you have millions of transistors changing state millions of times every second. If you think that's hot, I can remember vacuum tubes.

Just all the processing it takes in the computer. If you have a good working cooler in your computer it should be cool. But It is all the working cables and processers inside the computer.

Is a over heating computer bad?

It could harm your computer but its not likely i suggest going to a store and buying a computer fan that goes under the laptop or if its a desktop computer it will be fine. If it does break down from the over heating then its not a good computer company. One of there many focuses for a computer is to control the heat thats coming from the computer.

Dose putting a fan next to a computer stop it from over heatting?

yes! since a computer is a machine, i.e is using energy for its excutions, during energy cycle heat must be evolved, when fan is introduced then heat effect is reduced.

What causes computer fires?

Heat. Often, over time computers build up dust on heat generating components inside the computer. This makes them hotter and hotter, combined with a possible rise in ambient temperature and a breakdown of the metals in the parts that generate heat, can create an environment conducive to fire.

Why should'nt you cover a computers vent?

Because it will over-heat - causing the thermal fuse to trigger, shutting the computer down.

Is it a good as idea to cut off the computer after using it?

yes it is a good idea to cutt off or turn off the computer affer using because it helps to prevent the computer from damaging. when there will be an over full current. And also to prevent some accessory used in making the computer from getting burned because of over heat.

What is a heat spreader in ram and do you really need one in a gaming computer?

Does tin foil attract heat?

Tin foil is generally made of aluminum and can attract/transfer heat. Aluminium is widely used as cooling in computer systems, which spreads the heat all over the heatsink so the air can cool the aluminum down.
