Why do people beat up on dogs?

Dogs are abused the most because they are one of the most common household pet. People most likely would take there anger out on a dog, rather a person. You can get in a lot more trouble hitting a person.

Nowadays we have access to more scientific research and applied experience in animal behavior (dog behavior specifically) and animal training (Dog Training specifically), and we know that positive reinforcement and gentle, humane techniques have by far the best long-term results.

People who beat animals are guilty of cruelty and should be reported to the SCPA or Humane Society and/or the local police--and people who use negative reinforcement to train animals should be firmly coaxed into learning about and adopting positive reinforcement techniques instead.

There can be many reasons why a person will abuse a animal. It could be abuse by not feeding them in which case the person may have more animals than they can afford to care for properly. It could be physical abuse which would have some psychological root cause. Often animal abuse goes hand in hand with domestic violence.
