Salt water is more dense than fresh(tap) water. This allows the egg to float. It is also easier to stay afloat in the ocean than in a fresh water lake. Same concept. how much water do i use?

Why would people pick can an egg float on salty sugar floury plain water?

Eggs can float on salty sugar floury plain water because Egg shells may seem pretty solid, but they are in fact slightly porous. Old eggs float in fresh cold water because of a large air cell that forms as the egg cools after being laid. As the egg ages, air enters the egg and the air cell becomes larger and this acts as a buoyancy aid. Generally, fresh eggs will lie on the bottom of the bowl of water. Eggs that tilt so that the large end is up are older, and eggs that float are rotten. The tilting is caused by air pockets in the eggs that increase in size over time as fluid evaporates through the porous shell and oxygen and gases filter in. The older an egg gets the more gas builds up inside it. Eggs can float on salty sugar floury plain water because Egg shells may seem pretty solid, but they are in fact slightly porous. Why do eggs float to the top in salt water?

This had to do with density. When you put the egg into the water, it sinks as it is more dense than the water. However, if you add salt in the water, it becomes salt water and makes the water more dense than the egg so the egg can float. It is the same reason why people float in the dead sea. The dead sea is very salty and is more dense than humans. That's why we float so well in the dead sea.

Can an egg float better with salt?

An egg will sink in fresh water. Salt water is denser than fresh water, which allows the egg to float.
