I'm elderly, and the two reasons I can think of are:

  • Falls are embarrassing.
  • When you have relatives (probably children) doting over you, if they learn you've fallen they want to further restrict your activity. "You have to use a walker from now on." Talk about embarrassing. Or, "See, more evidence. You're going to have to stop driving." Or "See, more evidence. We're moving you to a facility where they check to be sure you're all right. You'll love it there." Yeah, like prisoners love their confinement.
