I'm absolutely sure that is not a 100% accurate statement.

The abusers family may "abandon" you simply because they either can't, or won't, believe that their family member is capable of that act - or that YOU somehow drove them to it.

They feel that if they ask for help once, then they should get out and if they don't then they're not in that much danger, or that they will just waste everyone's time and effort if they go out on a limb for them, since they will walk right back into the situation.
