I have both crickets (male and female) and A praying mantis (crickets are my mantises food) I believe you are thinking of praying mantises not crickets. As far as I know female crickets do not eat male crickets! I just watched them mate and nothing happened. Crickets are omnivores and scavengers that feed on organic materials. Crickets have been known to eat their own dead when there is no other source of food available, and even exhibit predatorial behavior on other weakened or dead crickets. Sexual cannibalism is common among mantises in captivity, and under some circumstances may also be observed in the field. The female starts feeding by biting off the male's head (as with any prey), and if mating had begun, the male's movements may become even more vigorous in its delivery of sperm. Early researchers thought that because copulatory movement is controlled by ganglion in the abdomen, not the head, removal of the male's head was a reproductive strategy by females to enhance fertilisation while obtaining sustenance. Later, this behaviour appeared to be an artifact of intrusive laboratory observation. Whether the behaviour in the field is natural, or also the result of distractions caused by the human observer, remains controversial. Mantises are highly visual organisms, and notice any disturbance occurring in the laboratory or field such as bright lights or movements by animals or humans. If the female cricket does eat the male it would most likely be for the same reason as the mantis.
Crickets chirp. As simple as that. There are 3 reasons why crickets chirp; 1) To attract females; 2) To impress the female he has already attracted; 3) To warn other males to stay away.
Only males sing and only females have an ovipositor.
There are 4 different messages being sent to other crickets when a cricket chirps. They are either trying to attract a female, repelling other males when a female is near, fighting off another male that is very close to them, and during the mating process.
Well yeah. Male crickets chirp by rubbing their wings together; as for females I'm not quite sure, but they CAN chirp. I have had many many crickets; they all chirped. Im thinking I didn't ALWAYS get males.... ?
No, the males should eat the same amount of food as the female. The males just grow up to be larger!! | I hope I helped!
the males will eat and kill the babies
yes,crickets do eat berries.
most crickets eat grass
The types of crickets that eat grass are field crickets and house crickets. Crickets also eat leafy vegetables, small insects, and fungi.
Peacock spiders eat baby crickets and "other small prey". In mating, the female may eat the male.
