Fireflys have many flash patterns as they need flash patterns for many reasons . They need it for mostly communication , mating and identification . Here's a story :

A male firefly sweeps his glowing tail through the air like a swinging torch , creating a blinking , yellow-green pattern of light . The female waits near the ground twinkling in return . With this code of light , male and female fireflies find each other so they can mate . Fireflies produce this cool chemical light in special cells near the tip of their abdomens. Each species of fireflies living in a particular area has its own pattern of light . People who study fireflies can identify over 130 types of fireflies around the world by their different flashing patterns :)
