there could be a no. of reasons why do glaciers move,but i just wanna say that glaciers move because of the sheer weight of a thick layer of ice and the fact that it deforms as a "plastic" material, combined with gravity's influence, and causes glaciers move slowly. then they rush down the mountain valley and this causes glaciers move faster. they are formed big rivers after they rush down the valley.

Glaciers move through gravity. The weight of the ice above pushes the glacier downhill. Glaciers move at different speeds, and they have to deal with friction and obstacles as well as the gradient of the slope. Some glaciers have melting water below them, which makes them move faster.

They crush and grind the rock beneath them creating glacier valleys with some of the finest naturally ground rock found in nature. They also cause a good bit of erosion; especially when they melt taking most of the powdered rock with the runoff into the ocean through the streams and rivers. A major contributor of silt in some places.
