Tough guys probably have soft sides cause they feel protective of themselves. They don't want to get hurt so they put up an act, the tough guy act, to keep people away from hurting, mocking, and/or any other reason. That or they just wanna be/act cool and not show who they really are unless they are with close loved ones. Either way guys are guys, and tough guys are no different. They can be a softy under the 'act' they put up, jerks, or being a tough guy is just who they really are.
