Why do guys cheat if they have a long term girlfriend - is he in love with girlfriend or not?

Usually if a guy cheats on his long term girlfriend it doesn't always mean that he doesn't love her it just means that he is feeling like he isn't needed or his needs aren't being met. So my suggestion is let him know that you care and you love it when he is around. Make him feel needed.
