Should hermit crabs be kept in pairs?
I'm not so sure if they need a companion, but they certainly enjoy company. If you are getting pet hermit crabs it would be advisable to get three or four, and as hermit crabs aren't too expensive, you should think about it.

Hermit Crabs like Humidity. They need 70-80% humidity to survive. But, if it like 100 degrees and no humidity i recommend to put a fan or air conditioner on then, or in their cage.
Do hermit crabs need a heat rock?
While hermit crabs do need heat, a heat rock is not a very good solution. Hermit Crabs can and will overheat themselves on a heat rock. A heat rock can get up to 100+ degrees, which is WAY to hot for a hermit crab. A better solution is to use an under tank heater pad, and mount it on the side of the tank. 2 small pads covering a corner is even better. You should make sure and have a cool side and warm side for your hermit crabs. Maintain about 80 degrees f on the warm side, and about 70 degrees f on the cool side and your hermit crab should be just fine. Keep the humidity at above 75% as well.

Hermit crabs should NOT be kept in a cage. They need to be in a 10-30 gallon tank with enough sand to completely bury them - as they need to burrow when they molt. When molting they will bury themselves for as long as 1 week to 2 months. If your hermit crab has nowhere to bury themselves when molting they will either retreat into their shell for 1 week - 2 months, or may even die. PLEASE do the proper research before buying hermit crabs. Pet stores may tell you that you can keep them in small cages with a sponge for water, but that is horribly incorrect. Hermit crabs CANNOT breath in regular air. The air needs to be at least 70-80% humidity, and they need to be in a tank that's at least 70 degrees fahrenheit. Hermit crabs can live up to 30 years. Most people only have their crabs from 1 week-3 months because they do not know how to properly care for them. If you own a hermit crab and do not care for them as stated above PLEASE look into either acquiring the proper tools needed for their care, or consider turning them over to an animal sanctuary that cares for hermit crabs.
I found a Hermit Crab that looks like there are babies living in the shell with her. Can this happen or am I seeing something else.?
Yes, that is baby's in the hermit crabs shell. well I'm not 100 percent sure. so if i were you ill take her/him to a petdoctor. or very least ill take the crew to an ocean.thanks
