Children are suppose to lose all of their teeth. It's when they are adults, they're not suppose to lose any teeth!
At 4 or 5 years old
Children typically lose their primary teeth, often referred to as "fang teeth" or canines, between the ages of 9 and 12 years. The exact timing can vary for each child, as the process of losing baby teeth and growing in permanent teeth can differ. Generally, the primary teeth start to loosen and fall out in a sequence that begins with the front teeth and progresses to the back. It's a natural part of dental development, leading to the emergence of permanent teeth.
The first molars that children get are called "pre-molars" and they come through at around 24 months of age. They are baby teeth and will eventually fall out to be replaced by adult teeth. The first 'adult' molars come through at around 6years of age, the next lot at about 12yrs & the last lot (if they make it past the gum line) are the wisdom teeth which come between the ages of 17 - 21 generally. Sometimes premature babies will have this problem with their teeth as they grow. Most children will loose their baby teeth anywhere from 5 to 8 years old. Your family dentist would be able to determine if there will be problems with the permanent teeth.
Children have 20 teeth, once they have all come in of course. Most children have all of their primary (baby) teeth by the age of 2 years old.
At around 10 years old, children typically lose their primary molars, also known as "baby molars," on the bottom. These teeth are usually the first set of molars that come in around age 6 and start to fall out as permanent teeth begin to emerge. The loss of these teeth is a normal part of the transition to adult dentition.
