Nothing. The laser in a DVD player is too wide to read data encoded on a Blu-Ray disc. It would simply return some sort of error message, such as "Disc read error" or "no disc inserted."

There is no such thing as a "format disc." If you got a message when you turned on your PlayStation One, it means it needs a disc that is of PS1 format. You must make sure that: 1) The game is from the same country as the game itself. 2) Not a copy. If you are having problems with a disc that you bought from a store, you PS1 is damaged, the disc is damaged, the disc is dirty, or the lens on the laser of your PS1 is dirty.
