Was just diagnosed with a broad based central disc bulge first presenting symptom of this was thigh pain which progressed into radiating pain to my toes and tingling and numbness in my whole leg. I'm no Dr. but they are telling me the pain and numbness is being caused by the bulge pushing into my nerve root. This maybe something to ask your Dr. to check it was very visible in my MRI.

Is 56 yr young to have spinal facet arthropathy?

Hi, No it is not, I am 47 yrs & I have it along with Lumbar spinal stenosis. You can get this due to injury, accidents & wear & tear I believe. My facet joint was damaged due to being assaulted so I can tell you along with the stenosis it is a 24/7 painful suffering & due to being a high risk patient for any surgery let alone for a back Op I have no choice but to put up with it. However I would like to know what I am to look forward to in the future, (the outcome of untreated spinal stenosis / facet Arthropathy) ie how long before I become totally housebound or in a wheelchair but I have been unable to find anything online. If anybody here knows, please feel free to inform me. Thanks

What is rotatory dextroscoliosis?

I am not a Doctor, but I do suffer from this condition. In layman's terms, the regular (usual) curvature associated with scoliosis is intensified by a rotation and/or a reversal of the curve, generally noticed with visible bone deformity in the ribcage parallel to the spine and noted in MRI with multiple disc disturbances in the thoracic/lumbar spine. It hurts. It is generally inoperable and does degenerate over time. Mine is compounded by degenerative disc disease and multifaceted arthropathy along with spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. I am a 34yr old male of Irish/Norwegian descent. I have no idea if that is relevant, but maybe an inquisitive team of doctors will read about it and contact me with some relief suggestions.Jon OsborneCertified Michigan Medical Marijuana Patientjon@greenkoma.com

How to Cope with Spinal Stenosis Pain?

Although not all cases of spinal stenosis cause pain, each case can present its own complications and, when the condition is discovered, a doctor can provide patients with advice for relief and treatment. Spinal stenosis normally occurs in patients that are 50 years of age and older. Age is often a common cause of this condition which is the narrowing of areas of the spine, often occurring in the neck or lower back. Other common causes of spinal stenosis include trauma such as injury due to an accident or a pre-existing genetic condition. Pressure on the spinal cord and nerves can result from the narrowing which can lead to pain in certain areas of the body as well as other issues such as incontinence. Pain and numbness can occur in the extremities such as the legs and arms, shoulders, neck and back. Patients may also experience incoordination and bowel control issues. Severe cases of spinal stenosis may require surgery such as a laminectomy to help reduce the symptoms. This procedure may provide relief by removing the lamina of the vertebrae which creates more room along the spine. However, surgery is typically a last resort and is reserved for cases of spinal stenosis that have resulted in disability or if lesser treatments have not provided relief. More common treatments include prescriptions such as tricyclic antidepressants, anti-seizure medications and pain killers including oxycodone and Vicodin. A doctor may also recommend physical therapy to help build up strength and improve flexibility of the spine. It is always best to consult a physician before beginning any type of exercise or therapy regime so to avoid further injury or complications. Steroid injections have been used as another form of therapy and may provide relief by reducing any swelling and inflammation surrounding the afflicted area. However, due to potential bone weakness, a limited amount of injections can be performed per year and should not be relied on as a long term therapy. Patients suffering spinal stenosis pain can also tend to the condition at home with the application of hot and cold therapy. They can improve their coordination with the use of a cane or other device. Following a well-balanced diet is recommended to keep weight under control and eliminating possible additional pressure caused by obesity.
