As the tree is closing down to nearly a dormant state in readiness for winter, it no longer requires leaves to provide 'food' for the tree to grow, so the tree slowly cuts off the supply to the leaves that then die, and fall to the ground and just like everything else they change colour.
less daylight
the sun provides chlorophyll, so in the fall the green pigment in the leaves go away.
Yes
okay well acually the reason that the leafs change is because their are so many chemicals in that air that the leafs have an affect so than if the leafs cant riseist them somehow sometime they have to die like Savannah akaz GIRL FROM THE DEAD
The leaves of some trees change color in the autumn, as the chlorophyll is not renewed in them. These trees (deciduous) go dormant during the winter.
Most leaves have more than one color in them. They usually appear green as chlorophyll is the dominate color. When fall comes and the tree begins to move nutrients to the roots for winter storage, the other colors will show.
