Best Answer

All felines, from wild lions and cheetahs, to domesticated cats, spend most of their time in sleep. In the wild, sleep schedules have developed around heat of the day when cats sleep, and best time to hunt after dark when it is cooler. Also, all felines use a high amount of energy during prey-hunts.

The "midnight crazies" in housecats, when the cat runs, jumps, attacks, and seems to be mildly possessed with catching "invisible prey", relates to thousands of years of relationship to their wild ancestors who were just getting up and ready to chase and hunt in the evening and night.
