Usually a lion will not kill its own cubs. Male lions who take over another male's territory (after winning a fight) will usually kill the other male's cubs - this is to prevent the other male's genes from being passed down, and also because the lioness will usually go into heat almost immediately (nature has made them do this so that if their cubs die, they can have another family to replace them). The males have learned that they can pass along their own genes by killing the cubs of their rivals. It's not a nice thing to think about or watch, but that's the way animals act in order to survive in the wild.

In a nutshell, they do it to ensure that the cubs they sire will continue to grow and spread his genes. There are various other reasons such as hunting SUPER large game e.g. giraffe, elephant, cape buffalo. They also protect the females from rival prides, males, hyenas etc.. He is there essentially to protect the lions reproductive process and to ensure that process succeeds without the threat of outside dangers that females and cubs would otherwise be vulnerable to.

male lions kill other male lions to proctect their pride or to get a pride. if the current leader of the pride is defeated the other male kills the cubs (baby lions) so that the female lions will mate with him.but it is quite rare for them to fight to the death usaully the current leader or the challenger will give up before one of them dies.

There are two reasons why female lions do the majority of the hunting. One is simply that the male lion's mane makes him more conspicuous, meaning that it's easier for prey to see him coming. The other is that the main role of the male is to protect the pride - he must save his strength for fighting off invading males.

Incidentally, male lions do hunt. They will join the females on occasion, particularly when hunting large prey such as buffalo, and young males that have left their natal pride but not yet taken over one of their own have no choice but to hunt for themselves.

It's more because they choose to than anything. But really, lions that are alone with no pride will still hunt with other males (or with a small bachelor pride) because there's no better way to bring down a zebra or wildebeest than hunting in a joint effort. Lions get more food working together than working alone. And a lone lion in a pride doesn't need to hunt because he knows the girls (the lionesses) will do it for him.

because the male lion wants the female lion to have sex him, since the female lion is not yet ready for mating the male lion will kill all the lion cubs so that the female lion will start for mating again.
